This regularly scheduled series offers nurses the chance to attend didactic sessions, either in-person or remotely, on topics relevant to their patient population. The educational topics focus on specific pediatric illness./injuries and are identified through observation, requests or formal learning needs assessments. All content is up-to-date and evidence-based, helping Intermediate Care/Step-Down Unit nurses provide the best care and improve patient outcomes.

Objectives:

1. Review common surgical tubes: Nasogastric, G-tube, chest tube, wound drains, wound vac and be able to state common indications for placement of each. 

2. Discuss and review assessment of common surgical tunes and drains 

3. State trouble shooting principles for common surgical tubes and drains

4. Identify safety supplies needed at bedside for chest tubes

5. Describe who to contact for G-tube dislodgment if new vs. established
