This training will cover how adults can effectively listen to infants and young children to help support their development. Trainers will discuss topics such as “active listening” for infants and young children, the impact of listening to young children on their social and emotional development, and strategies to foster healthy communication with young children.
Learning Objectives
After participating in this session, attendees should be able to:
- 1. Explain the concepts of “attunement” and “being felt with” and how these help an infant, toddler and young child understand their own emotions.
- 2. Describe concepts of “co-regulation,” “self-regulation” and “pause and wonder” and how these strategies help infants, toddlers, and children in social and emotional development.
- 3. Discuss the importance of affective and gestural (non-verbal) cues in the parent-child relationship, and the A.G.I.L.E framework.
