This training will discuss key concepts in mental health and emotional well-being of infants and young children. Content covered will include the critical role of attachment relationships in the development of infants and young children, as well as the impact of stress and trauma on the limbic system/ HPA axis of young children.
Learning Objectives
After participating in this session, attendees should be able to:
- Explain the connections between infant and early childhood mental health and the nature of relationships.
- Describe the concepts of “ghosts in the nursery,” “attunement,” and “Serve & Return” as it relates to early relationships.
- Explain three ways in which exposure to trauma affects children and their behavior at different stages of early development.
- Summarize how early experiences during interpersonal relationships help wire neural connections in the developing brain.
