Recognition and Management of Hypovolemic Shock in Pediatric Trauma
Course Description:
This one-hour course provides healthcare professionals with essential knowledge and skills to identify and manage hypovolemic shock in pediatric trauma patients. Participants will learn to recognize early signs and symptoms, understand the underlying pathophysiology, and apply evidence-based interventions to stabilize and optimize outcomes. The session will cover assessment strategies, fluid resuscitation principles, and critical decision-making in emergency settings.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, participants will be able to
Define hypovolemic shock and explain its impact on pediatric trauma patients.
- Identify early and late signs of compensated and uncompensated shock (e.g., tachycardia, hypotension, altered mental status)
- Outline the steps for initial resuscitation, including establishing IV/IO access and administering appropriate fluid boluses. (Belmont Rapid infuser vs Push Pull Vs Pressure Bag)
Target Audience: Emergency department nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists and other healthcare professionals involved in the acute care of pediatric cardiac patients.
