Course Title: Pediatric Drowning
Course Description: This one-hour lecture is designed for emergency department staff, focusing on the critical aspects of pediatric drowning. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the unique physiological considerations in pediatric patients, common scenarios leading to drowning, and the clinical signs and symptoms to be aware of. The course will also cover the initial assessment, stabilization, and management of drowning incidents in children, ensuring that attendees are well-prepared to handle these emergencies effectively
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, participants will be able to
- Discuss the indications for advanced interventions, such as intubation and mechanical ventilation.
- Outline the steps for initial assessment and stabilization of a child who has experienced drowning.
- Emphasize the importance of a systematic approach, including the ABCDE (Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Disability, Exposure) assessment
- Provide guidance on educating families and caregivers about drowning prevention and care
Target Audience: Emergency department nurses and other healthcare professionals involved in the acute care of pediatric trauma patients.
