Course Title: Pediatric Head & Neck Trauma

Course Description: This one-hour course is designed for healthcare professionals in emergency and trauma settings, focusing on the critical aspects of pediatric head and neck trauma. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the unique anatomical and physiological considerations in pediatric patients, common mechanisms of injury, and the clinical signs and symptoms to be aware of. The course will also cover the initial assessment, stabilization, and management of these injuries, ensuring that attendees are well-prepared to handle these emergencies effectively.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, participants will be able to 

 

  • List the most common causes and mechanisms of head and neck trauma in children.
  • Differentiate between various types of head and neck injuries (e.g., concussions, skull fractures, cervical spine injuries).
  • Outline the steps for initial assessment and stabilization of a child with head and neck trauma
  • Identify key clinical signs and symptoms indicative of head and neck trauma.

Target Audience: Emergency department nurses and other healthcare professionals involved in the acute care of pediatric trauma patients.
