Gregory Ross, MD, CPPS

I am excited to join the Nemours Florida quality and safety team as the new Florida Chief Quality and
Safety Officer (CQSO). I graduated from the University of Miami School of Medicine in 1996 after
completing undergraduate at Wake Forest University. My postgraduate training included a transitional
internship at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth Texas, a pediatric residency at Jackson Memorial
Hospital in Miami, and a pediatric critical care fellowship program at UCSF and Oakland Children’s
Hospital in northern California.
I was employed as a pediatric critical care physician at Brenner Children’s Hospital at Wake Forest Baptist
Hospital since 2003. My quality and safety interest started in 2003 when I became the physician
champion for quality improvement for the pediatric ICU. Over the next ten years, my responsibilities
expanded and included chair of the morbidity and mortality committee and the quality and safety
committee for Brenner Children’s Hospital.
In 2013, I assumed the role of Patient and Employee Safety Officer for Wake Forest Baptist Health. I was
responsible for the oversight and direction of the safety program for our health system including cause
analyses, culture of safety survey, daily safety check-in, medication safety, and workplace violence.
Regionally and nationally, I have been involved in committees through the American Academy of
Pediatrics, Society of Critical Care Medicine, Vizient, and the Children’s Hospital Association collaborating
on developing best practices, safety advisories, and quality measures.
Personally, I grew up in South Florida and have a brother in Sarasota, so I am excited to return to the
sunshine state. My partner, Michelle, will be joining me in the spring. I have two children. Izzy who is a
rising junior at NC State studying architecture and a son, Isaac who just graduated high school and will be
attending Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia next year to study Biology/pre-med and
play football. I enjoy exercise, mountain biking, sports including golf and boating, hanging out my 7 y/o
black lab, Clementine, as well as food and live music.
