Objectives
- Recognize subdural and epidural suppuration in children.
- Request the correct imaging study to detect these conditions.
- Identify pediatric patients with signs and symptoms of intracranial infections.
- Describe microbiologic causes and surgical indications in patients with intracranial infections.
Practice Change
- Order magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain with contrast when intracranial suppuration is suspected.
- Choose appropriate imaging and antibiotics for patients with suspected suppurative intracranial infections.
