Objectives

  • Describe the creation of a program to make liver transplant surgery available for pediatric patients in Jamaica.
  • Outline the steps involved in building infrastructure and a teaching model to support a collaborative international pediatric liver transplant team.
  • Discuss current outcomes, ways to improve and to discuss methods to make our program sustainable and have longevity through this collaborative effort.

Practice Change

  • Conceptualize the establishment of a complex medical/surgical treatment program and the effects this has on patients and the health care system.
  • Consider donating time to care for patients in the global community, to promote health equity for all children regardless of where they are born in the world.
