Objectives
- Outline clinical factors that indicate need for surgical intervention of cervical lymphadenopathy.
- Describe various available surgical techniques for management of suppurative lymphadenitis in the head and neck.
- Discuss why people with chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) are at risk for invasive infections with specific types of pathogens.
- List specific pathogens that cause invasive infections in people with CGD.
- Identify a common diagnosis in a patient with underlying immunocompromised status.
- Recall common complications of cervical lymphadenitis such as internal jugular vein thrombosis.
- Recognize common clinical presentations of CGD.
- Explain diagnosis and management of CGD.
Practice Change
- Apply knowledge of when imaging is necessary and when surgical consultation is required.
- Send appropriate diagnostic testing for CGD patients with suspected infections.
