Course Title: Managing Gunshot Wounds in Pediatric Trauma: Rapid Assessment and Critical Interventions

Course Description: 

This one-hour course provides healthcare professionals with essential skills for the rapid assessment and management of gunshot wounds in pediatric trauma patients. Participants will learn to prioritize life-saving interventions, control hemorrhage, and stabilize patients for definitive care. The session will cover initial trauma assessment, airway and breathing considerations, vascular access, and damage-control strategies, emphasizing evidence-based practices to improve survival in high-acuity scenarios.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, participants will be able to 

  • Perform a systematic primary and secondary survey for pediatric gunshot injuries.
  • Identify life-threatening complications and initiate immediate interventions.
  • Apply hemorrhage control techniques and resuscitation strategies tailored to pediatric patients.

Target Audience: Emergency department nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists and other healthcare professionals involved in the acute care of pediatric cardiac patients.
