Objectives

  • Recognize signs and symptoms of a pulmonary embolism (PE).
  • Identify and differentiate causes of hypoxia in pediatrics.
  • Discuss the clinical presentation, evaluation, diagnosis, and management of a PE.
  • Define the guidelines related to a PE, particularly as it pertains to treatment with anticoagulation and indications for reimaging.
  • Evaluate pediatric patient with hypoxia and apply appropriate work-up for diagnosis.

Practice Change

  • Screen patient with risk factors for PE.
