Course Title: Cardiogenic Shock and Cardiac Trauma in Pediatric Patients

Course Description: This one-hour course is designed for emergency department team to enhance their understanding and management of cardiogenic shock and cardiac trauma in pediatric patients. Participants will learn to identify the signs and symptoms of cardiogenic shock in children, understand the unique pathophysiology, and implement evidence-based interventions. The course will also cover the assessment and treatment of various types of cardiac trauma specific to pediatric patients, including blunt and penetrating injuries. Through case studies and interactive discussions, nurses and paramedics will gain practical skills to improve patient outcomes in critical pediatric situations.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, participants will be able to 

  • Recognize the clinical manifestations of cardiogenic shock in pediatric patients.
  • Understand the pathophysiology and common causes of cardiogenic shock in children.
  • Implement appropriate nursing interventions and collaborate with the healthcare team.
  • Assess and manage pediatric patients with cardiac trauma.
  • Apply evidence-based practices to improve pediatric patient care in the emergency department.

Target Audience: Emergency department nurses and other healthcare professionals involved in the acute care of pediatric cardiac patients.
