Gabriela Oates, PhD is Associate Professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Heersink School of Medicine. She is the Director for Population Health Sciences at the UAB Lung Health Center, Director of the UAB Center for the Study of Community Health, and Director of the UAB Social Determinants of Health (SDH) Institutional Research Core. Dr. Oates is a social epidemiologist with expertise in research methods focused on social and environmental exposures and experience in the application of SDH measures, tools, and data for patient outcomes, health services, and population health research. She leads multilevel interventions on social risk factors as well interventions that support chronic disease management. Her work is funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and the Alabama Department of Public Health
