Carlos Araya, MD
Dr. Carlos E. Araya joined the faculty of Nemours Children’s Hospital in October 2012. He currently serves as the Division Chief of Pediatric Nephrology and Medical Director of the Pediatric Dialysis Program for the Central Florida Kidney Centers and Nemours Children's Hospital in Orlando, Florida. He is also an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Central Florida and holds a Clinical Associate Professorship at Nova Southeastern University.
Dr. Araya completed his medical education in Costa Rica, graduating cum laude, and later earned a postgraduate degree in Public Health from the University of Costa Rica. His clinical training includes a residency in Pediatrics at Miami Children’s Hospital, followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Nephrology at the University of Florida.
Dr. Araya is deeply involved in clinical care, education, and research. In addition to his clinical responsibilities at Nemours, Dr. Araya is a part time clinician liaison for the Patient Experience Team, he Chairs the Medication Safety Committee and the NAKI Taskforce which strive to ensure the safe and effective use of medications and reduce nephrotoxin associated kidney injury across our hospital. Dr. Araya has been involved in medical education as a mentor for fellows, preceptor for residents and medical students, facilitator for small group sessions at UCF and as a contributor to the Versant New Graduate RN Residency Program at Nemours.
He has a strong track record in research, with involvement in multiple industry funded clinical trials and studies on topics such as chronic kidney disease, nephrotic syndrome, and kidney transplantation. Dr. Araya’s scholarly work has been published in leading medical journals, and he has co-authored several book chapters in the field of pediatric nephrology.
