Charles McCaslin, MD

As a Pediatric resident at Riley Hospital for Children, it did not take long before I encountered a child with cystic fibrosis (CF). I knew quickly I had a special affinity for CF care and needed to make that a large part of any future career to find fulfillment. As an Internal Medicine and Pediatrics trained physician I felt (and still feel), I have a unique perspective and skills in a disease process that now spans a lifetime requiring both self-management training for young adults and transition of care to adult trained providers.
In addition to transition and adult CF care, I have interest in quality and process improvement. Especially in the era of personalized medicine and specifically in CFTR gene mutation specific modulator therapy, we need to move beyond general guidelines and focus on outcomes based care. I have extensive experience leading a multidisciplinary team and I know that to truly improve care, patients and families need the support of more than just the physician to treat all aspects of CF and to also address the social determinants of health.
I have been taking care of children and adults with CF for many years now and count myself lucky to be part of this community. I am amazed by the change in care is have seen thus far in my career and look forward to what the future brings.
