Dr Piatt was educated at Swarthmore College and at the School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania (NOT the Perelman School).  He trained in neurosurgery at Duke University Medical Center and at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario.  After a brief tour on active duty in the Medical Corps of the US Army, he worked at Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, Oregon and at St Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia before taking his current position at Nemours in 2010.  His research interests lie in the epidemiology of pediatric neurosurgical conditions, particularly hydrocephalus and craniospinal trauma.
