Dima Turpin, M.D.
My career in pediatric cardiology has been guided by a consistent pursuit of excellence in academics, clinical care and mentorship. From being named valedictorian of my high school to graduating first in my medical school class, I have demonstrated a lifelong commitment to discipline, leadership and intellectual growth. These formative achievements established the foundation of my work as a pediatric cardiologist and educator.
Throughout my career, I have been committed to educating and mentoring future physicians. Earlier on, during my years at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, I actively taught residents and students while establishing and directing the Preventive Cardiology Program. I developed curricula, created structured clinical experiences, and mentored trainees—many of whom went on to pursue competitive subspecialty fellowships. At Nemours, I continue to integrate teaching into high-volume clinical practice, fostering critical thinking, professionalism, and independent decision-making in learners.
My academic contributions focus on advancing preventive cardiology and congenital heart disease care. At Nemours, I played a key role in developing a clinical pathway for lipid disorder management, ensuring consistent and evidence-based patient care. I have recently been invited as a guest speaker at a national conference, sharing expertise in pediatric cardiovascular health, which highlights the scholarly recognition of my work at a national level.
I have held leadership roles that strengthened both institutional operations and academic programs. At Johns Hopkins, I established and directed the Preventive Cardiology Program, integrating clinical innovation with academic growth. At Nemours, I currently serve as Director of Preventive Cardiology and previously led the Lakeland clinic, the busiest outpatient cardiology site in our system. These roles required balancing patient care with trainee education while ensuring quality and efficiency in clinical operations.
My clinical practice is centered on providing exceptional, patient-centered care to children with congenital and acquired heart disease. As a pediatric cardiologist, I am committed to advancing outcomes through preventive strategies, high-quality clinical pathways, and evidence-based interventions. My work has consistently aimed to merge compassionate care with innovation, ensuring that patients and families benefit from the best practices in pediatric cardiology.
In seeking promotion to Associate Professor, I bring a record of sustained mentorship, meaningful scholarly contributions, proven leadership, and excellence in patient care. Academic promotion represents not only recognition of past accomplishments, but also a call to continued service: to train future physicians, expand Pediatric and Preventive Cardiology, and advance the academic mission of our institution.
