Ruan Kruger is a Professor of Physiology and Sub-theme Lead for Epidemiology and Preventive Science in the Hypertension in Africa Research Team (HART) of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the North-West University. He is affiliated with the South African Medical Research Council Hypertension and Cardiovascular Disease Extramural Research Unit and holds fellowship status of the International Society of Hypertension (ISHF). Prof Kruger is the current President of the Childhood Hypertension Consortium of Africa (CHCAfrica) and a C1 NRF rated researcher.
Professor Kruger specialises in hypertension and cardiovascular health/disease, particularly in young populations. He is the Principal Investigator of several multidisciplinary studies and has published more than 130 original publications in internationally accredited journals since 2011 and supervised more than 50 postgraduate students.
He is the Acting CEO of the South African Heart Association (SA Heart) and serves on the Board of the Southern African Hypertension Society (SAHS) as well as numerous committees for the International Society of Hypertension (ISH) and International Pediatric Hypertension Association (IPHA). He is involved in numerous international consortia including the NCD Risk Factor Collaboration, May Measurement Month blood pressure screening initiative, the Youth Vascular Consortium, the International Database of Central Arterial Properties for Risk Stratification (IDCARS) Investigators and the Chronic Kidney Disease in Africa (CKD-Africa) collaboration.
