Kyle Bersted, PhD
Dr. Bersted is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Rush University Medical Center (RUMC) and serves as Division Head of Pediatric Psychology. He received his PhD at the University of Southern Illinois, Carbondale, completed his predoctoral internship at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, and completed his postdoctoral fellowship at Children's Mercy Hospital Kansas City. Clinically, Dr. Bersted is a Lead Assessment Psychologist in an early childhood autism clinic as well as a comprehensive psychological evaluation clinic for older children. He also serves as Lead Psychologist for an integrated behavioral health clinic within RUMC’s largest primary care center. Regarding education, Dr. Bersted serves as co-director of the Child/Pediatric track of Rush’s Psychology Residency Program and has mentored and supervised 14 predoctoral residents and four postdoctoral fellows since 2018. Lastly, Dr. Bersted serves as the co-chair of the Department of Pediatrics Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee. In this role, Dr. Bersted and his co-chair have developed several initiatives aimed at improving diversity and inclusion in the department, including a department climate survey, an annual departmental retreat, new procedures related to recruiting and hiring, and organizing Grand Rounds and Book Clubs, among others. Dr. Bersted and his co-chair also received certification in Restorative Justice (RJ) through the AAMC's RJ in Academic Medicine Facilitator Training in 2022 before creating their own RJ program at Rush. To date, Dr. Bersted and his co-chair have facilitated RJ events in their department involving more than 170 employees, as well as have published two papers, presented several posters, and led two workshops at national conferences aimed at educating healthcare employees about the promise of RJ in academic medicine.
