Samuel Kaplan, M.D., M.P.H., FAAP

Dr. Kaplan is an attending physician in the Diagnostic Referral Division and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. Dr. Kaplan completed pediatric residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh on a specialty track emphasizing advocacy, leadership, and service, followed by fellowship training in pediatric palliative and hospice care at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Dr. Kaplan’s clinical and research interests center on pediatric palliative care, with particular attention to complex ethical issues facing seriously ill children and their families. Recent scholarly contributions include presentations on terminal anorexia nervosa, pediatric palliative care transport, and non-adherence in seriously ill pediatric patients, as well as a published article on pediatric palliative transport in the National Alliance for Care at Home e-journal.
As an educator, Dr. Kaplan is passionate about teaching the next generation of pediatricians.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Kaplan enjoys hiking, birdwatching, fly fishing, and gardening with wife Amanda and their dog, Indy, although the latter is not much help.
