Sharon Calaman, Professor of Pediatrics, Vice Chair for Education, Department of Pediatrics, Division Director Pediatric Critical Care Medicine

Sharon Calaman is a Professor of Pediatrics at NYU Grossman School of Medicine where she also serves as the Vice Chair for Education for the Department of Pediatrics and as the Division Director for Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. She established the fellowship program in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at NYU. Prior to coming to NYU she was at St Christopher’s Hospital for Children, serving as the Pediatric Residency Program Director. She has expertise in simulation education, establishing a hospital-based center at St Christopher’s as well as developing hospital-based simulations at NYU. Her research interests have been in using simulation as an educational tool as well as in team communication and family centeredness in her work with the I-PASS Study Group on improving handoff communication and now with the Patient and Family Centered I-PASS Study group improving communication, safety and family experience through optimizing Patient and Family Centered Rounds. She leads faculty development efforts in the Department of Pediatrics and has presented nationally on topics such as mentorship, CV development and educational scholarship.
