David Cooper MD, MPH is board certified in Pediatrics, Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Critical Care. He is currently the Medical Director of the Heart Institute and Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.  For the last 19 years, his career has focused on the care of critically ill neonates, infants, children, and adults with complex congenital heart disease with a particular interest in how care in the intensive care unit can impact morbidity.  His research work has focused on anticoagulation, extracorporeal support, acute/chronic kidney injury, teamwork and performance and patient outcomes.  Dr. Cooper is the co-editor of the textbook Critical Heart Disease in Infants and Children, 3^rd Edition.  Dr. Cooper is the President of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society.  He served as a founding member (Executive Committee) of the Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Consortium (PC⁴) and the founding chair of the Database Committee (including development of the CICU database).  Dr. Cooper is the Institutional, Societal and Industry Relations Chair for the 2023 8^th World Congress of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery.
