Course Title: Trauma in the LGBTQ Community: Challenges and Care

Course Description: This lecture delves into the unique challenges faced by the LGBTQ community regarding physical trauma. Participants will gain insights into the prevalence, types, and impacts of physical trauma within this community, alongside strategies for providing sensitive and effective care.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, participants will be able to 

  • Understand the various forms of physical trauma experienced by LGBTQ individuals, including hate crimes, domestic violence, and other
  •  Explore the specific barriers LGBTQ individuals face in accessing healthcare and support services and learn how to overcome these obstacles to provide inclusive and compassionate care.
  • Review best practices for delivering trauma-informed care to LGBTQ patients, ensuring their physical and emotional needs are met in a respectful and supportive manner.

Target Audience: Emergency department nurses and other healthcare professionals involved in the acute care of pediatric trauma patients.
