Course Title: Assessment and Management of Ocular Trauma in Pediatric Patients
Course Description:
This one-hour course provides healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills to assess and manage ocular trauma in pediatric patients. Participants will learn to recognize common mechanisms of eye injuries, perform rapid and accurate assessments, and implement evidence-based interventions to preserve vision and prevent complications. The session will cover initial stabilization, pain control, imaging considerations, and indications for surgical referral, emphasizing the importance of timely and coordinated care in pediatric trauma settings.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, participants will be able to
- Identify common types and mechanisms of ocular trauma in children.
- Perform a focused ocular assessment and recognize signs of vision-threatening injuries.
- Apply appropriate initial management strategies, including protective measures and pain control.
Target Audience: Emergency department nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists and other healthcare professionals involved in the acute care of pediatric cardiac patients.
