This regularly scheduled series offers nurses the chance to attend didactic sessions, either in-person or remotely, on topics relevant to their patient population. The educational topics focus on specific pediatric illness./injuries and are identified through observation, requests or formal learning needs assessments. All content is up-to-date and evidence-based, helping Intermediate Care/Step-Down Unit nurses provide the best care and improve patient outcomes.

Objectives:

  • Consider indications for major orthopedic surgery in children with cerebral palsy 
  • Discuss expected progress of activity after spinal fusion, hip reconstruction, and SEML surgery
  • Discuss potential post-op complications, and associated nursing care to monitor and intervene
