Course Title: Management of Trauma in Pregnant Patients

Course Description: This one-hour course is designed for healthcare professionals in emergency and trauma settings, focusing on the unique challenges and considerations in managing trauma in pregnant patients. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the physiological changes during pregnancy, common mechanisms of injury, and the clinical signs and symptoms to be aware of. The course will also cover the initial assessment, stabilization, and management of trauma in pregnant patients, ensuring that attendees are well-prepared to handle these complex cases effectively.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, participants will be able to 

  • Understand Physiological Changes During Pregnancy
  • Emphasize the importance of a systematic approach, including the ABCDE (Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Disability, Exposure) assessment, with modifications for pregnancy
  • List the most common causes and mechanisms of trauma in pregnant patients.
  • Discuss the importance of early recognition and intervention to optimize outcomes for both the mother and fetus

Target Audience: Emergency department nurses and other healthcare professionals involved in the acute care of pediatric trauma patients.
